Since last Tuesday’s post a lot has happened for the Wings….After getting smoked by Toronto the Wings went on to play the Columbus Blue Jackets, and more than made up for their loss against Toronto. The final score was Detroit 9, Blue Jackets 1. But it makes you think where’s the consistency how a team can lose 5-1 and then come back and absolutely demolish a team, maybe it was the fact that Osgood was replaced by Jimmy Howard. Following the win last Wednesday Detroit pulled off another win against the Vancouver Canucks 3-1. Jimmy Howard was in goal again and made 31 saves, not bad for a back up. In their final win of the week Detroit played against the Anaheim Ducks and came out on top 7-4. It was a hat trick for Henrik Zetterburg , he also assisted two goals. Zetterburg seems to prove each and every game how valuable he is to the Wings. All and all not a bad week for the Wings, well maybe not for Chris Osgood who has been replaced the past three games by Jimmy Howard….

Following their win on Tuesday against the Boston Bruins on Tuesday the Wings won again on Thursday against the San Jose Sharks 2-1. Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg scored in a shootout making the score 2-1, breaking the Sharks’ six game winning streak. Chris Osgood played a great game in net making that his third great game in a row. But everyone knows good things don’t last long, on Saturday the Wings lost to the Toronto Maple Leafs 5-1. While Chris Osgood clearly didn’t play a good game the Leafs’ goalie Jonas Gustavsson played great making 35 saves. Even though the wings lost the game Steve Yzerman and sixteen other hockey hall of famers were honored before the game.

For the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday thirteen was their lucky number. In the thirteenth game of the season the Wings defeated the Boston Bruins 2-0. It was a great game for Henrik Setterburg the assistant captain who scored the first goal during a power play in the first period. Thomas Homstram scored the second goal of the night making it his eighth goal of the season making him among the best in the NHL.
A part of the game that also shouldn't go unnoticed is the fact that Chris Osgood picked up his fiftieth career shut-out. When people think of Chris Osgood it’s almost like they don't give the guy credit. Years ago I remember watching Osgood fire a shot all the way across the ice scoring a goal...how often do you get to see that in hockey? Chris Osgood is a great goalie overall, but sometimes it seems like he just doesn't cut it for fans because sometimes he plays an amazing game and other times it seems like it was the worst game ever. In the end it's great to see that while the offense is scoring the goals the defense and goalie are preventing them.
The next wings game is Thursday against the San Jose Sharks.
